M & Ms Boo-tterscotch Five years ago Mars introduced M & M for white chocolate and wheat for Halloween. It was probably one of the most successful seasonal fragrances of all time. I think five years have passed and they are coming back. Other flavors come and go, but they come back like the grain itself.
Target has a new Halloween flavor this year called M & Ms Boo-tterscotch, which is very similar. It’s also dominated by white chocolate, but instead of a sweetcorn flavor, it has a strong caramel flavor. These are purely targeted products, but like other fragrances, if successful, they may be available in other stores in future seasons.
Although candied wheat completely loses its flavor, this cake has nothing to do with Halloween other than words.
The pieces are available in three creamy caramel colors: eggshell white, light brown, and creamy brown.
The smell that appears when you open the bag is very sweet, but not the popcorn smell I got from candy corn. It’s sweet and comforting when you’re the type of person who enjoys caramel pudding. I am one of those people.
The smell is a bit woody, a bit like a peanut cake, but also a bit more fake, like Brach’s caramel buttons. They taste very simple, not the sublime charred sugar taste of Valrhona created for their dark white chocolate called Blond Dulcey. The real caramel and deep creamy notes of the good pudding are good here … but it’s M & Ms.
I bought M&M candy corns for comparison to make sure it wasn’t, but when I opened boo-butterscotch I realized it wasn’t necessary. M & Ms Candy Corn are tasteless in comparison.
I liked it, but I’m a white chocolate lover. They are cute, sticky, and fake. They are beautiful to look at, a bit pricey (specialty flavors are available in 8-ounce packs and regular flavors are mostly 9.9 ounces), and of course, they’re limited in quantity and sold only at Target.
They are likely to mix well with other snacks, especially salted peanuts, pretzels, or popcorn. I could even see her leave with regular M & Ms, as a special little ray of sweetness.
I have something for everyone when you knock on my door this year: Justin’s Peanut Butter Cups, Payday Bars, Mini Air Caps, Sweet and Sour Pops Charms, a selection of sugar-free gum, and lemon drops.
In case you’re wondering what Halloween is like in LA, one of my digital friends follows what he posts and the costumes kids wear for 10 years.
It’s the anniversary of the Candyology 101 podcast. Our first episode was also on Halloween. This year we’re talking about some of the new foods we’ve seen, sweets recommended for dietary restrictions (allergies), and the stupidest sweets poll we’ve seen in years.
DSC_9719rbBrach is releasing new versions of this year’s classic sweet corn, along with the return of pie, pumpkin pie, and caramel macchiato. Brach’s Brach Salt Chocolate Sweet Wheat claims to be made from real honey and produced in the same factory in Mexico as all other Brach sweet beans.
The picture on the front of the bag shows what chocolate truffles look like when washed with much more salt than they should be eaten. The good news is that this is an artistic image, it does not have much salt and it is obviously not visible.
Brachs Classic Sweet Corn contains 70 mg of sodium per 19 servings. The sea salt chocolate version contains 95 mg of sodium. Common salt and sea salt are listed on the ingredients label. The sea salt, which characterizes the product, is at the bottom of the list after the salt, after the palm oil, after natural and artificial colors, and a little more dextrose. Then there is only gelatin, honey, and artificial colors, as well as sesame oil and soy lecithin.
